My dad tried to get across to me in grade school that I should never try to be better than someone else. Now if you just stop there, it is kind of crazy advice. But he didn't stop there. He said to learn from others and never cease trying to be the best that you can be. That is under your control: the other isn't. So don't worry about being better, worry about being the best you can be. Part of being your best is accepting your own mistakes and learning from them. But do not be afraid to fail.
